exposição CLOSE THAT CURTAIN - Ana Nobre e Marta Vieira -

The Contemporary Miniprint of Kazanlak

Dear Artist and Print Maker,
We are pleased to inform you that the application process for the 2016 Miniprint of Kazanlak has officially begun!

Now in its fourth edition, the Contemporary Miniprint of Kazanlak is an international event whose aim is to provide a platform for artists, curators, collectors and art lovers to gather and exchange ideas on the multiplicity of artistic styles, mediums and manufacturing processes that have come to characterize contemporary printmaking.

Following the resounding success of our 2015 openings in the historical towns of Kazanlak and Stara Zagora, we once again invite international artists to submit both traditional and digital/experimental works addressing the diversity and open-ended nature of the creative process of printmaking.

Additionally to accepting works for the exhibition, the jury shall award two joint first prizes and up to 4 honorary mentions (2 in each category) : First prize in traditional printmaking and First prize in experimental printmaking/mixed media/digital media. Awarded artists will be invited to submit an additional portfolio of works to be featured at the exhibition for the complete duration of the event.
* Please note that as per last year, Miniprint Kazanlak will not be taking a Commission fee for the Gallery on the sale of works: 100% of the price of sold works will remain for the artists!

The deadline to apply is April 20th, 2016, but the ‘Early Bird’ discounted registration period ends on December 31st, 2015. Please review the rules of entry and registration guidelines on our website.

For more information, please visit www.miniprintkazanlak.org or check us out on Facebook. For additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly!

Looking forward to your application!

2015 GARMENT DISTRICT Arts Festival
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22 TO SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24
Gallery Exhibitions, Open Studios, Receptions, Performances
and Public Installations
Organized by the Garment District Alliance, this 12th Annual Festival is a celebration of the artists, crafters, galleries and theaters that contribute their creative energy to this twenty-plus block district and neighborhood that pulses 24/7. MGC puts out the welcome mat to all and joins together with theLower East Side Printshop, which is featuring Alone Together, an exhibition curated by Beth Citron, and the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, which is opening the Blackburn 20/20 Annual Member Show and putting on printmaking demonstrations on Saturday. Alberto Burri: Grafica
is an exhibition of the less frequently seen work in prints created by this innovator in post World War II abstraction. The show is on view now atLuxembourg & Dayan, 64 East 77th Street, NYC, until October 24, 2015. Burri (1915-1995) engaged in printmaking intensively from 1971 to 1994, beginning with a series of 10 Creti, created in response to a destructive earthquake in Sicily in 1968. These prints have the tactile, freighted materiality familiar to us in his paintings. Burri experimented with printing aquatint etchings using high pressure and heated plates, collage, gold leaf and other techniques, done in collaboration with workshops such as Stamperia 2 RC in Rome, Italy and Mixografia, Los Angeles, in the United States. This show will coincide with a retrospective of his work, The Trauma of Painting, at The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, NY.luxembourgdayan.com

Gallery 690: The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The rotation of drawings and prints from the permanent collection can be depended upon to excite the eyes and the mind. In the current selection, an astounding range of works are present. Very noteworthy are: one of the few surviving large scale preparatory chalk cartoons from the Renaissance by the Italian artist Domenichino (1581 Bologna - 1641 Naples) made up of 14 sheets of blue laid paper; etchings by the 19th century Spanish artist Mariano Fortuny, who was an influence on the painter Francesco Oller, the subject of a painting retrospective now on at the Brooklyn Museum; and prints by the contemporary American artists Thomas Nozkowski and James Siena. A large new engraving by Siena shows the potentials of this demanding technique for new linear expression. metmuseum.org
